Blue Zones Community Interest Meeting

The first community interest meeting will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center June 6 at 6 p.m.

Blue Zones co-founder, Nick Buettner, will present evidence-based practices that can improve overall health, well-being and longevity in Virginia Beach at a community interest meeting on June 6. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center located at 1000 19th Street at 6 p.m.

Evidence suggests that people who volunteer to participate in the Blue Zones project weigh less and have lower medical costs than people who don’t. Blue Zones project cities have also seen obesity rates drop 14 percent, smoking rates drop 30 percent and their well-being rise.

Given the potential for positive outcomes, the City is investigating the Blue Zone designation as a possibility to pursue. This public meeting will help the City assess community interest and give attendees an opportunity to acquire in-depth information about what it takes to become a Blue Zones community.

This event is free and open to the public, however registration is required for admission. RSVP and register here.
