Tropical Storm Michael

Be careful traveling around City as some roads are flooded, debris is blocking travel lanes. Treat all signalized intersections that do not have power as four-way stop. 

Oct 12 5:15 p.m.

​​Dominion Power has more than 300,000 outages in our service area; power has not been restored to buildings in the Muncipal Center.  City Hall (Building 1) will remain closed along with most other buildings in the complex. Buildings with generators are operating -- Building 2 (Public Works, Public Utilties, Planning, IT), Building 11 (Police), Building 27 and Building 30.  Building 14 (Voter Registrar) now has power; staff is processing registrations and voting. 

  • ​New: Waste Management is relaxing yard debris collection regulations to aid residents' cleanup efforts.  Visit here for guidelines. 
  • At Mount Trashmore - restrooms near Kids Cove do not have power and are closed; Parks and Rec staff are working to get portable restrooms out there; in the meantime, restrooms on the other side of the park near the lake are open
  • For 10/12-10/14 - All activities scheduled at Princess Anne Athletic Complex and City View Athletic Complex are a go. Includes all rentals and Sports Management-run youth and adult leagues 
  • Since VB School facilities are closed, all Friday (10/12) youth rec sports field and gym use cancelled for all youth league groups. All youth volleyball games scheduled for 10/13 are cancelled. Adult Coed Sand Football on 10/14 will be played as scheduled
  • Regularly scheduled sports on outdoor school fields are a go for the weekend
  • All libraries except the Wahab Law Library are open
  • All recreation centers open (power restored at Great Neck); no after school programs because VB Schools are closed
  • Reports of power outages, trees down throughout City; crews assessing and beginning clean up​
  • The WAZE app (available for iOS and Android phones) provides real-time, crowd-sourced information related to road conditions
  • Friday Trash/recycling collection services are operating. Please help keep our drivers safe by ensuring trash and recycling carts, yard debris and bulky items are accessible. Should roads leading to your home not be passable, crews will return to your area as soon as conditions allow
  • The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center and Francis Land House opened at noon; The Thoroughgood House is still without power and will reopen if/when power is restored. The Lynnhaven House and Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School Museum will remain closed 

Roads​ Status (last updated Oct. 12, 3:40 p.m.)​

We are checking roads now and will update the list. Use WAZE for real-time reporting. Currently have reports of the following roadways ​closed/blocked due to high water:​​​

  • N Muddy Creek from Charity Neck to Gum Bridge
  • Pleasant Ridge from Charity Neck to Muddy Creek​
  • Pungo Ferry Road from Princess Anne to Blackwater
  • Mill Landing from Stone Rd. to the end of Mill Landing at the bay
  • Indian River Rd from West Neck to Princess Anne​​

  • Note: Sandbridge and Robinson roads are ​reopened. 

Oct. 11 Service Updates​

8 p.m.  With the two hour delayed opening of VB schools Friday (10/12,) there will be no before school programs, however, Rec Center Early Childhood Programs will operate normal hours.

​​Parks and Recreation - ​All recreation center facilities and parks will be closing at 6 pm today; After school programs will still take place. Parents are encouraged to pick up their children no later than 5:45 p.m.

    • Adult Softball League games have been cancelled.
    • Field rentals at PAAC, Bayville Park, Red Mill Farms Park, Lynnhaven Park have been cancelled and customers are being notified by PAAC staff       
    • Recreational youth sports at parks and schools have been cancelled for the evening
Trash/Recycling Collection for Friday - still planned for Friday; customers should wait until Fri. morning to put out carts (before 7 a.m.)

​​12:30 p.m. All Virginia Beach Public ​​​​Library locations will close at 6 p.m. tonight except for the TCC/Joint-Use Library, which follows TCC's operational status. 
11:15 a.m.: By 2 p.m. today, based on water level gauges, we anticipate having to close Indian River Road between the bridge and Princess Anne Road and Pungo Ferry Rd from Pungo Ferry Bridge to Blackwater Rd. ​
