Commission Accepting Human Rights Awards Nominations

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Nominations for the 19th Annual Human Rights Awards Program are being accepted now through Jan. 7 by the Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission. The commission recognizes noteworthy individuals and groups who have aided in the understanding of cultural diversity and advocated for the human rights of the city’s residents.

The awards committee will evaluate nominees based on community involvement, initiatives and humanitarianism. Eligible nominees are people living or working in Virginia Beach or anyone who has contributed to the promotion of human rights to benefit Virginia Beach residents.

The commission has several types of awards. “We know there are many people committed to promoting awareness of diversity, inclusion and advocacy of human rights, and we look forward to receiving many nominations for these prestigious awards,” Commission Chairman James E. Parke said.

A nomination form must be attached to all entries, as well as two letters of endorsement to support the nomination.
