Officer Involved In Vehicle Accident

​On Friday, August 10, 2012 at approximately 8:00 p.m., Emergency Communications received a call for an accident in the 3200 block of Holland Road.  When police and rescue personnel arrived on scene they located a four vehicle accident with minor injuries.  Officers had the southbound lanes blocked at the intersection of Warwick Drive while investigating the accident.

 

While officers were investigating the four vehicle crash, a First Precinct Officer was in the northbound lanes in an attempt to divert traffic.  The officer attempted to stop a second lane of traffic in the same direction.  The officer was struck by a vehicle and was transported to a local hospital.  The driver of the 2000 BMW vehicle did stop and was not injured.  The officer who has been with the department for two years remains in critical condition.

 

There are no charges against the driver of the vehicle at this time.

 

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
