Police Investigate Theft of X-Ray Films

Wednesday, August 08, 2012

On August 01, 2012, Second Precinct Property Crimes Detectives were notified of a larceny which occurred at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital located at 1060 First Colonial Road.  Detectives learned two unknown suspects entered the hospital at approximately 1:20 a.m. in an attempt to retrieve x-ray films.  The suspects were denied by the security staff since they did not have the proper identification.  A short time later, the suspects re-entered the hospital and approached a hospital employee working in radiology.

The suspects advised the employee they needed to pick up x-ray films and were directed to the film room.  The suspects managed to steal over 200 pounds of film from the hospital.  Investigators have learned this is becoming a growing problem nationwide to include Canada.  After the theft the suspects extract the silver from the film which is then sold.

The suspects are described as a Hispanic male and a white male and appeared to have some knowledge of hospitals.  They are driving what appears to be an old yellow Penske moving truck.
