Busy Session for August Grand Jury: 85 Indictments Returned

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced that a grand jury meeting in Virginia Beach Circuit Court today returned indictments against 81 individuals charging 171 separate offenses.

Among the defendants indicted today is Vincent Michael Barrett, age 27, of the 3000 block Birch Bark Drive in Virginia Beach.  Barrett is charged with Aggravated Sexual Battery-Victim under Age 13, Object Sexual Penetration, Burglary with the intent to Rape, Eluding Police-Endangerment, and two (2) counts of Hit and Run-Property Damage, for an attack that occurred in the Red Mill area of Virginia Beach on May 5, 2011.

 

Kristin Wayne Harris, age 37, of the 4800 block Kempsville Greens Parkway in Virginia Beach, was indicted for ten (10) counts of Sell/Distribute Anabolic Steroids and one (1) count of Possess with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana.  Harris was employed as a police officer with the City of Norfolk during the time the alleged offenses occurred in April through June 2011.

 

The grand jury returned indictments against Tracy Lavern Mills, age 38, for two separate bank robberies at the Wachovia in the 1600 block of Independence Blvd. on January 1, 2011 and April 22, 2011. Mills is charged with four (4) counts each of Armed Robbery of a Bank and Use of a Firearm, two (2) counts each of Burglary of a Bank while Armed and Wearing a Mask in Public, and one (1) count of Assault and Battery of a Law Enforcement Officer.

 

Investigators for the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services presented indictments against two (2) individuals for Knowingly Makes Any False Application for Welfare Fraud.  These individuals are: Earlina Ontreal Cheatham of the 300 block Harmony Court in Virginia Beach, 3 counts; and Natasha Renee Herzog of the 3600 block Starlighter Drive in Virginia Beach, 2 counts.  Herzog is currently serving a five (5) year penitentiary sentence for Involuntary Manslaughter, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol with Victim Permanently Impaired, Driving Under the Influence – 2nd Conviction within 5 Years and Refusal of Blood/Breath Test, which occurred in the Town Center area of Virginia Beach in November 2009.
