Commonwealth v. Elvin Ariel Perez; Two Life Terms Plus 60 Years for Rapist

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Elvin Ariel Perez, 42 years old, who previously resided in the 1200 block of Richwood Court in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was sentenced today by Circuit Court Judge Edward W. Hanson, Jr. on charges of Rape (2 counts) Custodial Indecent Liberties (2 counts), Forcible Sodomy, and Forcible Sodomy-Victim under age 13.  Judge Hanson sentenced Perez to a total of two (2) life terms plus 60 years in prison.  Judge Hanson did not suspend any of the time.  Perez pled guilty on May 25, 2011.

Had this matter gone to trial, the Commonwealth’s evidence would have proved that between 1998 and 2010, Elvin Ariel Perez sexually assaulted a young female on numerous occasions.  The victim eventually disclosed the abuse to a friend and contacted the police.  When questioned by detectives with the Virginia Beach Police Department, Perez admitted to the crimes.
