Mount Trashmore Park is in the running as “America’s Favorite Park” through a national campaign developed by Coca-Cola and the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA), which is an initiative encouraging families to get active outdoors in parks across the country.

Citizens are encouraged to visit and vote for Mount Trashmore Park to win this celebrated title along with a $100,000 recreation grant. Voting ends September 6, 2011, so time is running out! Citizens can also garner extra points for Mount Trashmore Park by uploading photos and virtually checking in on Facebook. There is no limit to the number of times citizens can vote, so vote and check-in as much as possible!

World-renowned Mount Trashmore Park (located at 300 Edwin Drive) encompasses 165 acres and is comprised of two man-made mountains, two lakes, two playgrounds, a skate park and vert ramp, and multi-use paths. A favorite park amongst Virginia Beach residents and beyond, Mount Trashmore Park is also home to Kids Cove, a 26,000 square foot playground that is fully ADA compliant and barrier-free to accommodate all children. Another popular feature with park attendees is the Mount Trashmore Skate Park, a 24,000 square foot extensive street course that includes an aboveground seven-foot deep bowl and a competition-sized vert ramp that stands at a massive 13.5 feet tall and 40 feet wide.

Famously recognized for its environmental example of landfill reuse, Mount Trashmore Park opened in 1974 based on the conversion of an abandoned landfill into a city park. Now existing as the city’s signature park, Mount Trashmore features hard surfaced trails for walkers, joggers and bikers with scenic views of the lakes, mountain and other park amenities.

America Is Your Park was developed by Coca-Cola in collaboration with NRPA. The Coca-Cola Live Positively initiative will award a $100,000 recreation grant to the park with the most votes, a $50,000 grant to the second-place park, and a $25,000 grant to the third-place park.
