Virginia Beach Relocates its Municipal Recycling Drop-Off Site

Monday, April 16, 2012

The Virginia Beach Public Works Department - Waste Management Division has relocated its Municipal Center recycling drop-off site to West Neck Road between Nimmo Parkway and North Landing Road behind the Post Office.  The previous location has been at the corner of George Mason Drive and James Madison Boulevard behind the Schools Administration building.

Residents are able to begin dropping off their recyclables at this new location beginning Monday, April 16.  BOTH sites will be open for drop-offs for the next four weeks; the old site will close on May 15.

Officials say that the new location offers residents improved capacity and is available for use 24 hours a day.

“We are delighted with the response of residents to using recycling drop-off locations in Virginia Beach,” said John C. Barnes, Waste Management Administrator.  “The Municipal Center location has been so heavily used that we are relocating to a nearby site within the Municipal Center to meet the high demand.”

Other residential recycling drop-off locations include:

  • First Landing State Park (picnic area), 2500 Shore Dr., daily, 7 a.m. until dusk
  • City Landfill, 1989 Jake Sears Road, Mon. – Sat., 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Princess Anne High School, 4400 Virginia Beach Blvd., daily, 24 hours a day
