VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On June 14, 2022, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department
(VBPD) responded to the 1400 block of North Great Neck Road for suspicious activity at a Citgo
gas station, that was closed at the time. Officers observed numerous vehicles and individuals
congregating on the property, pumping gasoline. During the officers’ preliminary investigation, it
was determined that devices were being used to illegally access gas pumps. Individuals were then
selling the gasoline at a discounted rate through a phone application and had advertised the
operation on social media. It was determined that thousands of dollars worth of gasoline was
stolen from the business over several days.
The suspects were identified as Rashane Griffith (M/24) of Norfolk and Devon Drumgoole (M/21)
of Norfolk. Both men were charged with Grand Larceny, Conspiracy, and Possession of Burglary
Tools. More charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
This is an active investigation by the VBPD Detective Bureau. Gas stations that close overnight
should review security camera footage from the last few weeks to ensure they have not been
victims, as well. It is recommended these businesses take extra precautions to ensure this does
not happen to them in the future.
