Robbery Arrest

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – October 30, 2021, An arrest has been made after an attempted robbery at the Wal-Mart in the 500 Block of First Colonial Road.

Marcus Conaway (38) of Norfolk and Frederick Robinson (42) from Virginia Beach entered the Wal-Mart, after exiting a vehicle parked outside with its license plate concealed by a grocery bag. Once inside, the two approached the jewelry counter where they attempted to break the glass display and open its locked doors. A clerk came over to assist the men who inquired about two sets of wedding bands. Robinson then snatched the rings from the clerk’s hands and walked quickly to the exit. Robinson brandished a machete when confronted by store employees, allowing them to flee the store without apprehension.

Simultaneously, Virginia Beach ECCS had been alerted to the suspicious vehicle outside; officers were dispatched to investigate. The responding officers encountered Conaway and Robinson as they exited the store and took them into custody.

No one was injured during the robbery. Robinson was charged with Robbery and Grand Larceny and Conaway was charged with conspiracy to commit Grand Larceny. They are currently being held in the Virginia Beach City Jail.
