Friday, October 08, 2021

The Virginia Beach Department of Public Health will host a free COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at New Light Baptist Church, 5549 Indian River Road.

Those under 18 will be offered the Pfizer vaccine and will need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Adults will have the option of either the two dose Pfizer (Comirnaty), two dose Moderna, or one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

Boosters will also be available for the Pfizer vaccine in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The booster vaccine can be obtained any time after 6 months from the date of second Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. For information on booster eligibility, please visit this CDC webpage.

Third doses of Moderna are also available, as directed by the CDC, for those individuals who are immunocompromised. This includes people who have received an organ transplant, who are actively being treated for cancer, who have HIV, or are receiving any other treatment that affects their immune system. It is recommended that individuals who believe they may be eligible for the third dose should consult their physician, or refer to CDC guidelines.

Appointments for Wednesday are encouraged; however, walk-ins will be accepted. Children under 18 will receive the Pfizer vaccine and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Visit the link below to schedule your appointment time.

The Delta variant is dominant in Virginia, driving an increase in COVID-19 cases. Vaccines are our best defense, drastically reducing the risk of infection and hospitalization.
