VB Public Works Issues Update for Pungo Ferry Bridge Project

Public Works Operations has issued an update for the Pungo Ferry Bridge Project which began in March.

  • Full bridge closures have ended, and none are scheduled or planned – barring an emergency – at this point.
  • The majority of the work being done is mostly at night in order to reduce any impacts on traffic and to assist crews during the scheduled work hours.
  • There will still be occasional short-term single lane closures when required
  • As of now, the project is expected to be complete in late August - weather permitting.

The project was planned as preventative maintenance and consists of repairs to the deck and beams, bearing replacement, epoxy deck overlay, as well as cleaning, painting, and waterproofing of steel components.

Public Works will continue to work closely and coordinate with Fire/Police/EMS/Agriculture officials.
