Juvenile Arrested and Charged for a Shooting That Critically Injured One Person

​VIRGINIA BEACH, Va - On June 13, 2021 at 7:33 p.m. Virginia Beach Emergency Communications (VBECCS) received a 911 call to report the sound of gunfire in the 5500 block of Gower Place. At 7:45 p.m. VBECCS received another report from a local hospital that an adult male victim had self-transported to their emergency room suffering from critical injuries due to apparent gunshot wounds.

 

Officers responded to the 5500 block of Gower Place and located evidence. Further investigation revealed that the victim, who had self-transported to the hospital, had been shot  near the basketball courts on Hampshire Lane. Detectives were able to identify the 17-year-old juvenile suspect and obtain petitions for malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a juvenile and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. 

 

On June 15, 2021 a search warrant was conducted in the 5500 block of Baccalaureate Drive in relation to this crime and further evidence was collected. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody without incident and is being held in the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Facility.

 

This case remains an active investigation by members of the VBPD Homicide Unit.
