VBPD Arrests Suspect Involved in Larceny of Catalytic Converters

​VIRGNIA BEACH, Va. – On May 20, 2021, members of Virginia Beach Police Department's First Precinct Crime Suppression Squad, the Detective Bureau, and the Norfolk Police Department conducted a joint operation to track and arrest a known suspect involved in the larceny of catalytic converters.

Mobile surveillance of the suspect utilizing a reciprocating saw to remove catalytic converters from commercial vehicles in the 4000 block of Holland Office Park. Upon leaving the scene the suspect, 35-year-old Christopher B. Canady, was stopped and taken into custody without incident.

Three catalytic converters, a handgun, two reciprocating saws, and a syringe containing heroin were recovered. The suspect was charged with seven counts of Grand Larceny and one count of Convicted Felon in Possession of a Weapon. It is anticipated that the arrest of Mr. Canady will clear several related cases across the city.

The suspect was transferred to Virginia Beach City Jail.
