Spring Maintenance for Several Virginia Beach Recreation Centers Scheduled

Maintenance Dates Are Staggered to Minimize Impacts to Customers

Thursday, January 26, 2012

If you’re a frequent visitor to a Virginia Beach Recreation Center, please note the upcoming maintenance schedule. We’ve staggered the maintenance dates to minimize their impacts to you.  But don’t forget that a Virginia Beach Recreation Center membership grants you access to all 6 of our recreation centers, so you can still get work out while your favorite recreation center is undergoing maintenance!

Friday, February 17, 2012 – Thursday, March 1, 2012: the pool at Great Neck Recreation Center will be closed to replace the pool filters, which have not been replaced since the building opened in 1990.

Monday, March 5, 2012 – Thursday, March 15, 2012: the pool at Bow Creek Recreation Center will be closed to repair a valve. This work is needed to keep the pool operational through September 2012, when the facility will be closed. Bow Creek Recreation Center will be replaced with a 66,000 square foot facility. For details about this new recreation center, please visit www.VBgov.com/BowCreek.

Monday, March 12, 2012 – Sunday, March 18, 2012: Seatack Community Recreation Center will be closed for annual maintenance. During this week, staff will perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs, such as painting, cleaning overhead areas, and cleaning ducts.

Saturday, May 19, 2012 – Sunday, June 17, 2012: the pool at Princess Anne Recreation Center will be closed so the pool filters can be replaced. Like Great Neck’s filters, they have not been replaced since the facility opened in 1994. This will take longer than Great Neck’s replacement as Princess Anne’s original filtration system was configured differently.

Since a Virginia Beach Recreation Center membership grants access to all 6 Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, you may visit another recreation center while work is performed at your favorite facility:

  • Bayside Community Recreation Center, 4500 First Court Road, off Shore Drive;
  • Bow Creek Community Recreation Center, 3427 Clubhouse Road, off Rosemont Road;
  • Great Neck Community Recreation Center; 2521 Shorehaven Drive, behind Cox High School;
  • Kempsville Community Recreation Center, 800 Monmouth Lane, off Kempsville Road;
  • Princess Anne Community Recreation Center, 1400 Nimmo Parkway, off General Booth Boulevard; and
  • Seatack Community Recreation Center, 141 South Birdneck Road, near Norfolk Avenue.
