*Update*Two vehicle crash with fatality -Holland Road/Governor’s Way

The decedent has been identified as 47-year-old Lyree Dawn Vaughn of Virginia Beach.


The driver of the suspect vehicle, 26-year-old Kenneth Ka'Von Grant of Virginia Beach, was arrested and charged with DWI(3rd offense in 10 years), Reckless Driving, Hit & Run causing personal injury and Involuntary Manslaughter.  He is being held in the Virginia Beach City Jail.


On Friday, October 9, 2020 at approximately 8:02 p.m., Emergency Communications received a call for two vehicle crash at the intersection of Holland Road and Governors Way. Officers arrived on scene and located the crash. The suspect driver, an adult male, fled the vehicle on foot and was apprehended a short distance later by officers. Emergency Medical Services also responded to assist at the crash. The victim driver, an adult female, succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash. The driver of the suspect vehicle, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital with minor injuries. 

This case is still very active and the roadways between northbound Holland Road at Chimney Hill to Windsor Oaks Road are expected to be closed for the next several hours for the accident investigation. Police ask that you please avoid this area. This release will be updated once the roadway is reopened. 

At this time speed and alcohol may be contributing factors to this crash. 

This case remains under investigation by members of the Fatal Crash Team (FACT). No other information is available at this time. This release will be updated as soon as information becomes available.
