Virginia Beach Rec Centers Begin Welcoming New Members Again

Tuesday, September 08, 2020

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – After a slow and deliberate soft reopening following the COVID-19 closures, Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation (VBPR) is now welcoming new members at all seven community recreation centers. In addition to the regular annual and premier membership options, VBPR is also now offering a 30-day pass at just $21 for Virginia Beach residents. The 30-day pass is a great way for guests to try the centers and explore what they have to offer. Certain areas of the centers remain closed at this time and reservations are required for use. The latest information on visiting the centers and purchasing memberships can be found at VBgov.com/reopen.

When the rec centers reopened at the end of June, VBPR wanted to ensure that current members were given the first opportunity to access the centers. This soft launch allowed VBPR the chance to make sure that new protocols were working smoothly and monitor utilization trends before resuming the sale of new memberships.

Currently, rec centers have timeslots available each week for the weight rooms, gymnasiums, group fitness classes, lap swimming, family swim, and racquetball. Member reservations are made one week at a time beginning on Friday for the following Monday-Sunday. Members may reserve up to four spots each week and call day-of to check for cancellations and add additional reservations.
