Virtual Bank On Hampton Roads Classes Begin Sept. 2

Friday, August 07, 2020

The next round of free Bank On financial empowerment classes kicks off on Sept. 2. Coordinated through the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services, Bank On Hampton Roads is a regional partnership of participating municipalities, banks, credit unions and community organizations designed to connect unbanked and under-banked families to free or low-cost bank accounts and other resources leading to financial freedom.

Through an array of coordinated services, the program provides residents the opportunity to learn the skills needed to achieve greater financial freedom and independence. Participants in the five-month program are expected to attend one virtual class per month and work one-on-one with a personal financial coach. In addition to learning the basics of banking and money management, participants will learn strategies to overcome paycheck-to-paycheck living, reduce debt, increase savings, build a credit score and protect assets.

Due to the restrictions on large gatherings and the need for social distancing, the upcoming series of classes will be 100% virtual. Classes will meet once per month for five months. Participants can choose from one of the following options that best fits their schedule:
