Virginia Beach Waste Management Cleared to Resume Waste Collections

​Waste Management will resume collections on Tuesday, April 7. City Waste Collections were suspended on Friday, April 3, 2020 after a member of the Waste Collections Operation tested positive for COVID-19 so that workplace safety concerns could be addressed. The Department of Public Health has completed its trace investigation and has cleared the department to resume services.

"We know it was an inconvenience for our customers and we appreciate the consideration while we made sure our employees were safe," said Public Works Director Mark Johnson.

Trash, recycling, yard waste, and bulky item services will operate on a one-day delay: Friday, April 3 customers receiving service on Tuesday, April 7. For example, Tuesday routes will be collected on Wednesday. Wednesday routes will be collected on Thursday. Thursday routes on Friday, and Friday routes on Saturday, April 11.

Recycling for April 3 customers was completed. Residents receiving recycling service for the week of April 7 will follow the above schedule for their recycling service.

Residents can continue to use the Virginia Beach Landfill and Resource Recovery Center, located at 1989 Jake Sears Road. Normal hours for the landfill are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Also available is the SPSA Landstown Transfer Station, located at 1825 Concert Drive. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. – noon.
