City Announces Cancellation of Events Beyond April 2020; Annual Memorial Day Ceremony is Canceled

​To help keep Virginia Beach safe in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and comply with Governor Northam's Executive Order, all events have been canceled through June 10, 2020. This includes events permitted by the Special Events & Film Office and the Department of Parks & Recreation.

  • Annual Tidewater Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony scheduled for May 25, 2020
  • Parks & Recreation has canceled spring sports leagues and all events and programs through June 10, 2020.

Farmers Market

  • The Farmers Market has canceled the Strawberry Jamboree on May 16, 2020, as well as all Friday Night Hoedowns during May 2020 and on June 5.

  • Accounts: Virginia Beach residents who do not currently have a library account may call (757) 385-0150 and provide a Virginia Beach address to receive a temporary account to access the digital collection.
  • Material Returns: VBPL is not accepting material returns during building closures. Please keep borrowed items and return them when the libraries reopen. No overdue fees will be charged. Please do not leave materials unattended outside the library building.
  • Material Holds: Customers are not able to place holds on physical materials due to the extended closure. Customers may keep lists of items they would like to check out using the "My List" feature in the library catalog.
  • Programs: Some library programs are being offered online via prerecorded video and Facebook Live. In-person programs are discontinued through April.  
  • Meeting Rooms: VBPL is not accepting new meeting room reservations for April. Existing April reservations are canceled. Reservations for July through December will open on May 1. Central Library is only accepting reservations for the auditorium, due to maintenance in the Libris and Folio rooms.
