Budget Presentations to be Broadcast on Tuesday; City Announces Latest Cancellations​

(March 26, 2020) — City staff will give presentations on the FY 2020/2021 Resource Management Plan on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 4 p.m. The City Council will not be in attendance, and City Hall (Building 1) will remain closed to the public. These presentations can be viewed on VBTV (Cox channel 48 & Verizon channel 45), online at www.VBgov.com and on Facebook.com/CityofVaBeach.

HOUSING & NEIGHBORHOOD PRESERVATION

  • The Housing Advisory Board meeting on April 27, 2020 has been canceled. 
HUMAN RESOURCES

  • The Human Rights Commission meeting on April 9, 2020 has been canceled. ​

LIBRARIES

  • The Public Library Board meeting on Monday, April 13, 2020 has been canceled. 

PARKS & RECREATION

Sports league updates:

  • Adult Coed Sand Football: The remainder of the schedule has been canceled. Teams may receive a partial refund or apply the refund to partially pay for the fall registration fee. Contact cwathletics@vbgov.com for assistance.
  • Adult Spring Softball: Postponed until May 1.  Teams can receive a partial refund for games being canceled in April, move the registration to the fall league or receive a full refund. Contact cwathletics@vbgov.com for assistance.
  • Youth Coed 7v7 Passing League:  Postponed to begin on May 1.  Individuals may request a full refund. Contact cwathletics@vbgov.com for assistance.
  • Youth Fastpitch: Still currently scheduled to begin May 5.  Signups are handled by area recreation associations, so any refund requests must be made to the association directly.
​Summer Youth Employment Program: 

  • As of now, the City of Virginia Beach has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Virginia Beach Summer Youth Employment Program. If something changes, staff will be reaching back out to candidates who submitted applications directly. In the meantime, staff is working on ways to engage these participants in skill-building and financial literacy, so please monitor emails for additional information.​​
Childcare Programs:

  • ​​​​With the Governor's announcement of schools remaining closed for this academic year, all 2019/20 school year programs including licensed Early Childhood, spring break and safety camps are to remain closed/canceled.

VIRGINIA AQUARIUM

  • Member Summer Camp Registration and Mermaid Mondays, among other events, are being postponed. For guests who have already purchased Mermaid Mondays tickets, please know that we are working to get in touch with you to coordinate refunds. VIRGINIA BEACH CORRECTIONAL CENTER

  • On-site inmate visitation at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center is suspended until further notice. Visit vbso.net for information on other options, including web-based video visitation.
