Fugitive Shot During Arrest Operation Conducted by Out of State Law Enforcement

The operation that was being led by the US Marshals Service was aimed at apprehending an individual wanted for homicide out of Montgomery County MD. That individual has been identified as 51-year-old Hans Alejandro Huitz of Virginia Beach.

Officers with Montgomery County PD, who are members of the US Marshals task force, confronted Huitz while he was in his vehicle in the 900 block of Maitland Drive, and were negotiating his surrender when Huitz presented a firearm. In response, officers fired upon the suspect.

No further information is available at this time. This is a continuing investigation being led by the  Virginia Beach Police Department, alongside the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney. 


On February 12th 2020 at approximately 6:39 am, Virginia Beach Emergency Communications was advised of an officer involved shooting that occurred in the 900 block of Mailtalnd Drive. 

This was a US Marshals Task Force operation.  Out of state officers were attempting to make an arrest for a fugitive.  The suspect sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

This continues to be an active scene.  The intersection of Wellsford Drive and Maitland Drive will be shut down for several hours.

The Virginia Beach Police Department will conduct an investigation into the shooting, along with the US Marshals.
