Virginia Beach Homeless Memorial Service and Vigil Scheduled for Dec. 20

Monday, December 09, 2019

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Dec. 9, 2019)  —  The public is invited to join the Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission, Department of Housing and Neighborhood Preservation and the BEACH Community Partnership at the Virginia Beach homeless memorial service and vigil on Friday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Housing Resource Center, 104 N. Witchduck Road.

Each year, communities across the nation gather on or near National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day on Dec. 21, the longest night of the year and first day of winter, to commemorate the lives of the men and women who have died homeless.

“Housing is a basic human right for all and this annual vigil serves as a powerful reminder that precious lives are still being lost due to homelessness,” said Teresa Stanley, Virginia Beach Human Rights Commissioner. “We hope the community will join us as we honor not only those we have lost, but also our neighbors who continue to face the challenges of homelessness every day.
