Celebrate Parks & Rec Month with Fun and Fitness

Wednesday, July 03, 2019

July is Parks & Rec Month and there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate with Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation.

A series of free family fun events are planned at all seven community recreation centers as well as the Princess Anne Athletic Complex.  It's an open invitation to splash around in the pools, check out the game rooms, get creative with arts and crafts, try out the gyms, fitness classes, and more.

New this year is an event at the Princess Anne Athletics Complex, where kids of all ages can test their athletic skills with pick-up games of soccer and flag football, as well as fun with a giant soccer ball.

No membership is needed to attend the events, but registration is required. The first 100 people registered for each event will receive a swag bag of Parks & Rec items. Those who attend at least four of the events will be entered to win either a free annual membership or two personal training sessions.

Free drop-in fitness classes throughout the month feature the launch of new choreography for the popular Les Mills group fitness classes.

Also new this year is the "Pix in the Parks" photo contest that invites residents to visit Virginia Beach parks and outdoor spaces during July and snap a photo with a drawing of the "Barks and Rex" mascot that's available from the contest site. Online voters will determine who wins the top prize of a $500 Lidl gift card or second and third prizes of four tickets to the Virginia Aquarium.
