Families of Victims Request Privacy, No Contact With Media at this Time

Monday, June 03, 2019

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (June 3, 2019) - The families of the victims of Friday’s tragedy are requesting privacy at this time. While they are grateful for the outpouring of condolences and support, they are requesting time and space to process the loss of their loved ones. Should they desire to speak with the media in the coming days and weeks, the City of Virginia Beach Communications Office will facilitate that contact. The families are aware that there is great interest in learning more about who these individuals were, but the overwhelming volume of calls, emails, and in-person visits has become intrusive and is distracting from their ability to focus on their grief.

The family of Bobby Williams has asked that the following statement be relayed:

“Our beloved husband, father and PopPop was a private man of few words. We feel the best way we can honor his memory would be for everyone to allow us to grieve our loss in the same way.  We would ask that members of the media please respect our wishes and allow us to grieve in private with our family and friends. Thank you for respecting our wishes and the precious legacy of a wonderful man.”
