Parks & Rec Brings the Heat with Hot Line-up of Summer Events

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation's summer events schedule is coming in hot! With loads of family-friendly events and activities for citizens and visitors to enjoy, everyone is sure to have a season to remember.

Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival (May 31 to June 18 | times and prices vary| Mount Trashmore Park)

Thrilling rides, games, and traditional state fair foods are all available at the Mount Trashmore Park Summer Carnival. Located in the parking lot off Edwin Drive, the carnival is great for all ages and includes free admission and parking.

Seatack Community Day (June 1 | 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Seatack Recreation Center)

Join us at Seatack Recreation Center for a fun, family-focused event with activities that include bounce houses, fitness demonstrations, vendors, games, dancing, rock wall climbing, pool activities, kid's crafts, music and more. We are also excited to welcome Beach Closet to the event this year who will be collecting items to assist individuals and families in our community experiencing homelessness. Please consider bringing new socks, shoes, blankets, toys, or personal care items to donate.

Party at the Pier – live concerts (6 to 10 p.m.| Little Island Park)

June 14 (rain date June 15) - Party Fins

August 23 (rain date August 24) - BJ Griffin and The Galaxy Groove

Kick off your shoes, bring your friends and join us for a free concert in the sand with live music by local bands, presented by Siebert Realty. Bands will start at 7 p.m. Food trucks will be onsite selling food and non-alcoholic beverages and there will be onsite beer and wine sales to benefit the Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation Foundation. Limited onsite parking is available and free after 5 p.m. Carpooling or ridesharing services are recommended, if at all possible.

Parks & Rec Month Family Fun Events (Various dates and times throughout July | Virginia Beach Recreation Centers and Princess Anne Athletic Complex)

Join us for free activities at our Family Fun Events as we celebrate July is Parks & Rec Month! Activity highlights include swimming in our indoor pool, game rooms, arts & crafts, fitness classes and more.  No membership is needed to attend, but registration is required. The first 100 people registered will receive a swag bag of Parks & Rec items. Those who attend at least four of the events will be entered to win either a free annual membership or two personal training sessions.

July 4 Celebration (July 4 – no rain date | 4 to 10 p.m.| Mount Trashmore Park)

Celebrate America's independence with live music, delicious foods, and of course, booming fireworks!

Parking is $10 and when parking lots at Mount Trashmore Park are full, Edwin Drive between Independence Boulevard and South Boulevard may close. Fireworks usually begin at 9:30 p.m., but that time is subject to change.

Movie Night: Homeward Bound (July 12 – rain date July 13| 6 to 10 p.m.| Red Wing Park)

Join us for a movie under the stars as we watch an old favorite with your K-9 friends! We're showing Homeward Bound on our giant screen at one of our favorite signature parks. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and of course family and friends. Four-legged family members are also welcome to attend - on leashes, of course! The movie starts at dusk and food will be available for purchase.

Aloha Back to School Movie Night: Moana (August 16 | 5 to 9 p.m. | Williams Farm Park)

Let's say ALOHA to summer as we prepare for the start of a new school year! We will be celebrating with a variety of fun-filled, family-friendly activities along with giveaways and door prizes. We will be giving away much-needed school supplies starting at 5 p.m. Supplies are limited and available while they last. The fun will continue with a family movie night showing of Moana in Williams Farm Park beginning at dusk. Bring blankets and beach chairs for the movie. This event is free and open to the public. In the event of inclement weather, activities will be moved inside the Williams Farm Rec Center.

Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is very proud that the Inclusion Services Unit will be hosting Sensory Tents at many of this season's special events. This dedicated area is meant as a calming space and provides various forms of organized sensory input should an individual become over-stimulated.
