Voter Registration and Absentee Voting Information for the June 11 Party Primary Elections

Democratic Party Primary: Virginia Senate 6th and 7th Districts; Republican Party Primary: Virginia Senate 7th District and City Treasurer | The deadline to register to Vote is May 20

Friday, May 10, 2019

Virginia Beach registered voters can cast their ballots on June 11. Party Primary Elections will be held for Virginia Senate and City Treasurer. The Democratic Party will have a Primary for Member Senate of Virginia 6th District and 7th District. The Republican Party will have a Primary for Member Senate of Virginia 7th District and for City Treasurer.

Since Virginia voters do not register by political party, any voter can vote whenever a primary is held. If both the Democratic and Republican Parties are holding primaries at a polling location on the same day, Virginia law allows the voter to vote in only one of the party primary elections. Voters must indicate whether they want to vote in the Democratic Party Primary or the Republican Party Primary.

To be eligible to vote on Tuesday, June 11, those not registered, or any registered voter who needs to make a change to their registration address or name, must submit a Voter Registration Application no later than close of business on Monday, May 20. Mailed Voter Registration Applications must also be post-marked on or before May 20.

Residents may register in-person at the Voter Registration & Elections office, all Virginia Beach Public Library locations, and Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Offices (in conjunction with DMV transactions) during normal hours of operation.

Online Voter Registration is also available on the Department of Elections website at www.elections.virginia.gov.

In order to receive an absentee ballot by mail, Absentee Ballot Applications must be received in our office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4. The voted ballot must arrive in our office by 7 p.m. (Close of Polls) on Election Day, June 11.
