Commonwealth v. Ian Daniel Palmer; Man to Serve 15 Years for Repeated Sexual Abuse of Child

Monday, April 15, 2019

Colin D. Stolle, Commonwealth's Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, announced that Ian Daniel Palmer, 28 years old, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, was sentenced today for two (2) counts each of Forcible Sodomy and Custodial Indecent Liberties.   Circuit Court William R. O'Brien sentenced Palmer to 44 years in prison with 29 years suspended, leaving fifteen (15) years to serve.

Palmer pled guilty on October 2, 2018.  Had this matter gone to trial, the Commonwealth's evidence would have proven that on February 16, 2018, a child reported that Ian Daniel Palmer sexually assaulted the child.  This abuse occurred frequently over a three-year period.  Palmer would blindfold the child and tell the child not to report the abuse to the child's mother.

During an interview with police, Palmer did not fully admit to abusing the child but did apologize for his actions.
