City Council Seeks Applicants to Fill Beach District Seat

Application materials must be received no later than 5 p.m., April 8, 2019.

Due to the March 19 Virginia Beach Circuit Court order, the Beach District Council seat is vacant. The Virginia Beach City Council encourages registered voters in the Beach District who are interested in filling the vacant seat to apply for consideration. 

Candidates must provide the following items:

  • Letter of interest
  • Resume
  • Statement of economic interest
  • Completed questionnaire

Application materials are available at VBgov.com/hottopics and packages should be submitted by 5 p.m. on April 8 to:

In order to be eligible for appointment, candidates must reside in the Beach District . Interested candidates may determine which district they reside in by visiting VBgov.com/property-search, entering their address, selecting their home, and then viewing their district on the "City Services" tab.

The citizen City Council appoints will serve until a candidate is selected during a special election in November, and that individual has been deemed qualified to serve and takes the oath of office.

The City Council will review applications in a closed session and narrow the applicants to a short list of candidates that will be made public on April 9.

Application materials for the short list will also be available to the public and citizens will have an opportunity to provide feedback to City Council during the April 16 City Council meeting.

The City Council will interview selected candidates during a public special session on April 23. Immediately following the interviews, the City Council will deliberate and may make a decision that same day.
