Public Input Sought for Salem Woods Park Proposed Renovations

Friday, February 01, 2019

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is seeking feedback as it begins the process of renovating Salem Woods Park. With a plan to replace the park's existing baseball fields with a rectangular multipurpose field among other new future planned amenities, the department invites residents to attend an open house session on Monday, February 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kempsville Recreation Center (800 Monmouth Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23464) where department representatives will be answering questions about the project. Those unable to attend the open house are being asked to submit their comments via an online form no later than February 15. Following the feedback period, construction is anticipated to begin in April 2019.

The site plans outline the proposed design for the park that will include a rectangular multipurpose field, a dog park outfitted with designated areas for both large and small dogs, wider walkways, along with future plans for a new large shelter and expanded parking. With the removal of the baseball fields, the Larkspur Salem Recreation Association will be relocating its baseball program to Rosemont Forest Athletic Park.
