Show Us Your LOVE of Virginia Beach And Win a FREE Valentine's Day Dinner for Two

Thursday, January 31, 2019

The ViBe Creative District nonprofit and the Virginia Beach Office of Cultural Affairs are encouraging the public to “Show Us Your LOVE” of Virginia Beach by participating in a LOVE-themed social media challenge that ends on Feb. 13. The photography campaign gives the public an opportunity to show off what they love about Virginia Beach while celebrating the first 3D LOVEwork in Virginia Beach — one of over 100 artworks throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia celebrating the “Virginia is for Lovers” slogan.

How to participate:

  1. Pick up a LOVEwork Sticker at any participating ViBe Creative District business, the Oceanfront Library or the Sandler Center Box Office in Town Center.
  2. Take a photo holding one of ViBe's LOVEwork stickers in front of your favorite person, place or thing in Virginia Beach and/or take a photo with the LOVEwork located next to the Oceanfront Area Library at 18th Street and Cypress Avenue in the ViBe Creative District.
  3. Post the photo on your Facebook or Instagram account and be sure to tag ViBe (@ViBeCreativeDistrict on Facebook or @thevibecreativedistrict on Instagram) and Virginia Beach Arts (@VirginiaBeachArts on Facebook or @vabeacharts on Instagram). BONUS points for tagging #showusyourlove or #loveva.
  4. On Feb. 13 at 6 p.m., two grand prize winners will be chosen — one from Instagram and one from Facebook. Each winner will receive a $100 gift card to the ViBe restaurant of their choice, just in time to take a loved one out for Valentine's Day!

Additionally, five honorable mention award winners will receive a FREE ViBe T-shirt and $10 gift card to their choice of favorite coffee in the ViBe Creative District. All winners will be announced and tagged on ViBe Creative District's Facebook and Instagram pages for notification. If you are a winner, email to coordinate prize pick-up.

A brief overview of the LOVEwork:
The public unveiling for the ViBe Creative District's LOVEwork (Virginia Beach's first 3D LOVEwork) took place on Aug. 11, 2018 and was attended by approximately 200 people. The LOVEwork was designed by Virginia Beach resident and graphic designer Chesley De Leon and fabricated by local sign experts Signs of Success. Sponsored by grants from the Virginia Tourism Corporation and the Virginia Beach Office of Cultural Affairs, the artwork was inspired by Virginia Beach icons and installed on public property at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront Library at the corner of 18th Street and Cypress Avenue.

In order to spread the message that "Virginia Beach is for Lovers" and to spark community pride, the LOVEwork was printed as a custom sticker. With Valentine's Day quickly approaching, the ViBe Creative District nonprofit decided to expand on the theme of love and create the "Show Us Your LOVE of Virginia Beach" social media campaign to debut the stickers.

"I have shared what I love about Virginia Beach through my design but now it is the public's turn to share what they love in a fun and engaging way," says De Leon, graphic designer of the LOVEwork.

The artist says of the artwork design: "The L has the ViBe logo and a paintbrush to represent the growing and vibrant Creative District, which is also the home base for the LOVEwork. The O depicts the city's most popular attraction and my favorite place to be, the beach. The V is a rainbow-colored peace sign that represents the city's diverse, friendly and easygoing atmosphere. The E has the Town Center logo, which depicts The Westin and the Armada Hoffler Tower to represent the urban life."

"We hope that LOVEwork becomes a well-known and recognizable symbol of Virginia Beach's first arts district," said Kate Pittman, executive director of the ViBe Creative District. "It is just one of the many wonderful examples of the City of Virginia Beach's and Office of Cultural Affairs' efforts to support local artists."
