February at the Virginia Beach Convention Center

Tuesday, January 29, 2019

Today is "National Plan for Vacation Day." Studies show that last year almost 705 million vacation days went unused. While Americans are encouraged to plan for vacation today, area locals are encouraged to plan a "STAYcation" (or two!) in 2019. Picture planned time set aside to leisurely enjoy Virginia Beach, taking in the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of a city millions of visitors dream of as they anxiously wait for their turn to enjoy all that's offered throughout this coastal gem of a destination. For starters, plan a walking tour of our emerging arts district where you'll find unique, often locally-owned shops, restaurants and galleries within proximity of our Virginia Beach Convention Center (VBCC), and then pop in to enjoy one or more of these public February events:

Feb. 2 – 3:  Southeastern Guns & Knives Show (SGK) – SGK is an organized event that promotes understanding of the shooting sports, appreciation of American history and an opportunity to view historic and contemporary weapons. SGK show patrons attend the shows as collectors, hobbyists, sportsmen, and hunters as well as those who are interested in home defense. This is a ticketed event and children 14 and under are free with a guardian. Click here for a discount coupon for one regular admission.

Feb. 8 – 10: Mid Atlantic Leisure Expo – The Mid Atlantic Leisure Expo brings together more than a dozen top outdoor living vendors under one roof offering factory-direct savings and year-end clearances. Best of all, admission is free. Whether you are looking to heat things up with a new hot tub or spa, or you are ready to build your dream outdoor living space, the Mid Atlantic Leisure Expo will have what you need at extraordinary savings! Feb. 8 – 10: The 66th Annual Mid-Atlantic Sport & Boat Show – If you've been thinking of buying a boat or upgrading what you currently have, now is the time to buy! Whether you want to see the latest and greatest 2019 models or want a great deal on an unused 2018, you don't want to miss this chance to check them all out. The Boat Show offers plenty of family fun, too! There will be face painting for the kids and anglers clubs to teach you how to cast a net or tie a fly. Bring the family and learn how easy and affordable boating can be. A day on your boat is a relaxing way to reconnect with your family and is more affordable than you might think. Find all the show info here.

Feb. 16 – 17: Tidewater Coin Show The Tidewater Coin Club is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the needs of collectors in the area and to education those interested in learning about the history of coinage. The Club was established in February 1956 and has met continuously since. U.S. and foreign coins & currency, domestic & foreign gold, medals & tokens, ancient coins & artifacts, and supplies will be on display and for sale. Door prizes, raffles, and free gifts for the kids make this a family-friendly show. Representatives from America's oldest grading service, ANACS, will be on site accepting submissions and evaluating coins. BONUS:  A Scout Coin Collecting Merit Badge workshop will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 16, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Find all the details here.
