Overnight Shelter Available for Homeless Adults during Winter

Tuesday, January 22, 2019

Overnight shelter for single adults (18 and older) experiencing homelessness is available through the city's Winter Shelter program. The program provides homeless individuals with a warm place to sleep each night at various faith organizations throughout Virginia Beach.

To access the Winter Shelter program, individuals must check in each day that overnight shelter is needed. Check-in times and locations are below:

DaysCheck-In TimeWhere to Check In:
Monday - Friday3 – 5 p.m.

Housing Resource Center
104 N. Witchduck Road

Saturday and Sunday3 – 5 p.m.

Judeo-Christian Outreach Center (JCOC)
1053 Virginia Beach Blvd.

Shelter space is limited and placement in the Winter Shelter is not guaranteed. Spots are provided through random selection (not first come, first served).

Transportation is provided from the check-in location to the shelter site. Each individual is allowed to bring one bag that is able to fit underneath their seat on the bus or on their lap. Participants are picked up from the shelter site and dropped off at the Housing Resource Center or JCOC, depending on the day.

JCOC, under a contract with Virginia Beach Housing and Neighborhood Preservation, operates the Winter Shelter program and provides participants with transportation. Participating faith organizations rotate weekly to provide overnight shelter and meals. Some organizations may also provide additional support and resources, such as toiletries and clothing.
