Virginia Beach Provides Early Issuance of February 2019 SNAP Benefits

SNAP renewals will be processed early to ensure benefits for families in February

Monday, January 14, 2019

The Virginia Beach Department of Human Services will begin early processing of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit renewals and interim reports for February 2019 to ensure availability of benefits for individuals and families living in Virginia Beach.

As a result of the continuing federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which oversees the SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) program, has asked states to make February benefits available early to participants in the program.

If you are currently receiving SNAP benefits in the City of Virginia Beach, the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services urges you to drop off the following materials in person:

  • Renewal Applications
  • Any Other Associated Documentation (as appropriate)

All documentation should be brought to the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services Administration Building (3432 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23452) on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019 or Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 between the hours of 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

The Department will continue to have extended hours until 7 p.m. through Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019. However, to ensure your February benefits are processed early, please bring any necessary documentation by the close of business on Jan. 15.

Those who submit their documentation should be able to access their February benefits by Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019. Note, that this will be an early issuance of February benefits and will not be in addition to funds normally dispersed in February.

At this time, the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services does not have information on the benefits process for March 2019. However, this information will be provided to all media outlets when available.
