Crash Investigation Leads to Attempted Murder Charge

On January 4th, 2019 at approximately 7:40 p.m., Emergency Communications received a call for service in the 500 block of First Colonial Road which involved a three vehicle accident.  The accident resulted in four victims requiring medical evaluation and treatment at local hospitals.


Currently, an adult male victim is listed in critical condition after sustaining life threatening injuries due to the accident.  

The operator of the motor vehicle, Matthew Rushin, Age 20 of Virginia Beach, who allegedly caused the accident was taken into police custody.  Matthew Rushin was transported to the Virginia Beach Correctional Center and is presently held on a NO BOND PERMITTED status related to a single charge of Attempted Murder.  Additional traffic related charges are pending further investigation. This case is under joint investigation involving the Virginia Beach Police Department Detective Bureau and the Special Operations Fatal Crash Team.
