New Session of Bank On Program Begins This Month

Free financial empowerment classes being offered in Virginia Beach

Thursday, January 03, 2019

The latest offering of the free Bank On financial empowerment program begins this month with classes at several locations throughout Virginia Beach. Coordinated through the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services, Bank On Virginia Beach is a partnership of participating banks, credit unions and community organizations designed to connect unbanked and under-banked families to free or low-cost bank accounts and other resources leading to financial freedom.

Through an array of coordinated services, the Department of Human Services provides Virginia Beach citizens the opportunity to learn the skills needed to achieve greater financial freedom and independence. Participants in the 10-month program are expected to attend one class per month and work one-on-one with a personal financial coach. In addition to learning the basics of banking and money management, participants will learn strategies to overcome paycheck-to-paycheck living, reduce debt, increase savings, build a credit score and protect assets.

All Bank On classes are free and conveniently located throughout the City:
