“CLICK IT OR TICKET” Mini Mobolization Virginia Beach

Friday, November 16, 2018
The holidays are upon us, time to save more lives as the end of 2018 approaches! In an effort to save more lives on Virginia’s roadways during the holidays, the Virginia Beach Police Department is partnering with State and other local law enforcement agencies to buckle down on all motorists not buckled up. Traffic safety checkpoints, saturation patrols and other intensified law enforcement activities will be conducted during a heavy wave of enforcement, November 18, 2018 – December 1, 2018.

📷Click It or Ticket is a high visibility enforcement program designed to raise safety belt usage and save people from death and serious injury on the streets and highways.

The program will use educational radio messages recorded personally by chiefs and sheriffs, along with stepped-up enforcement, to send a strong message that safety belts save lives.

Virginia Law allows law enforcement to cite the driver of a car in which an occupant under the age of 18 is not wearing a safety belt or is not properly secured in a child safety seat. The law also provides that drivers stopped for other violations can be cited if they are not properly restrained. This also applies to all front seat passengers.

The Virginia Beach Police Department would like to remind you that seatbelts are your best defense during a motor vehicle crash. The primary function of the seatbelt is to prevent ejection and spread crash forces over a wider part of the body to reduce injury and death. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with the proper use of seatbelts you are 45%-50% less likely to be seriously injured or killed during a crash. Don’t be a statistic or one who says, “It will never happen to me,” buckled up. So now, doesn’t it make sense to wear your seatbelt!
