Public Utilities Warns Customers of Possible Utility Scam

Friday, October 26, 2018

Virginia Beach Public Utilities is asking residents to be cautious if someone comes to their door claiming to be from the water company. A resident recently reported a suspicious individual impersonating a meter reader going door-to-door in the Southall Quarter neighborhood.

Alexander's Contract Services performs water meter-reading for Public Utilities. These contracted meter readers are easily identified by their uniforms, reflective vests and identification badges. The Alexander's logo is also prominently displayed on company vehicles. These individuals will never have a reason to enter your home, ask for personal or account information, or request any type of payment.

Residents should report suspicious individuals to the Virginia Beach Police at (757) 385-5000.
