Notice to Mariners Posted for Rudee Inlet Shoaling

A notice to mariners has been posted for Rudee Inlet due to serious shoaling conditions, based on a City of Virginia Beach survey, dated October 12, 2018.

The survey indicates shoaling across the channel from the approximate east ends of the jetties extending out eastward approximately 195 feet.  Conditions reported are least depth from 6.6 feet MLLW (mean lower low water).

Shoaling in the inner channel continues on the north side of the channel with least depth reported at 9.2 feet MLLW. Shoaling is located approximately 120 feet to 295 feet west of the east ends of the jetty.

Mariners are urged to exhibit extreme caution when approaching this area.  Use idle speed when approaching the inlet and seek local assistance if unfamiliar with the inlet and its condition.
