City Celebrates October as Energy Awareness Month

Tuesday, October 02, 2018

In celebration of Energy Awareness Month, the City of Virginia Beach's Energy Office has partnered with the non-profit Switch Energy Alliance and Virginia Beach Television (VBTV) to bring the nationally acclaimed film "Switch" directly to the homes of Virginia Beach residents.

The film makers traveled the world to study how energy supply is currently experiencing profound changes – making energy conservation even more important. For citizens young and old, this film explains the complex world of energy in basic, easier-to-understand terms.

Viewers may watch the film "Switch" seven days a week throughout October on VBTV Cox Channel 48 and Verizon Channel 45. The film will be aired on the following days and times:

  • Sundays at 6 p.m.
  • Mondays at 5 a.m.
  • Tuesdays at 9 p.m.
  • Wednesdays at 8 a.m.
  • Fridays at 9 p.m.
  • Saturdays at 12 a.m. & 3 p.m.

For those who do not have access to the Cox cable and Verizon cable channels, residents may also enjoy the film on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, 717 General Booth Blvd. The showing is free and open to the public.

"We can all make an impact starting today. The goals of the Switch Energy Alliance are energy education, awareness and efficiency – and we're pleased to partner with this non-profit to expand energy education here in Virginia Beach," said Lori Herrick Borden, the City's energy manager.
