Hurricane Florence Update at 10:15 p.m. on Thursday

First Street Jetty: Hurricane Florence has drawn much attention to our area and many people's curiosity has attracted them to the oceanfront to view the stormy seas. People have been observed on the Jetty at First Street trying to get a closer look. Please do not put yourself or others safety at risk. Being on the rocks is an extremely dangerous act, particularly during inclement weather.

We would like emphasize that area is not authorized and is posted with no trespassing signs in multiple locations. A trespassing violation is a class 1 misdemeanor, punishable with up to 12 months in jail and a fine up to $2,500.

Closings & Cancellations:

  • Pungo Blackwater Public Library will be closed Friday, Sept. 14

  • The Adult Probation and Parole Office will be closed Friday, Sept. 14

  • The Police Recruitment Expo is cancelled on Saturday, Sept. 15

Call Volume Emergency Communications Citizen Services:

Compared to this time last week, call volume for Emergency 9-1-1 and non-emergency 311 was about the same, but the 311 call volume tripled on Tuesday and doubled on Wednesday.
