Lighthouse Center Closing After 20 Years of Providing Day Services to Homeless Community

Enhanced Day Services Will be provided at New Housing Resource Center Beginning Sept. 11

Friday, August 31, 2018

For 20 years, the Lighthouse Center on 18th Street near the oceanfront has provided day services for thousands of homeless individuals and served as a gathering point for the City's Winter Shelter Program. Now that the Housing Resource Center has been completed, the City will close the Lighthouse Center. Virginia Beach Housing and Neighborhood Preservation invites the public to join the City and its faith and nonprofit partners at the Lighthouse Center closing ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m., 825 18th St. To attend, please RSVP at

The Housing Resource Center, located at 104 N. Witchduck Road, includes a day services center and will replace and expand the services that were offered at the Lighthouse, such as showers, laundry and housing support. Day services at the Housing Resource Center are expected to start Sept. 11.
