Kelly Weber Stefonowich, Ph.D., Named Development Specialist for Virginia Beach Public Library

​Kelly Weber Stefonowich, Ph.D., joined Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) in the role of development specialist on July 5, 2018.  Working closely with the Virginia Beach Library Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing funding for VBPL above and beyond the budget allocated by the City of Virginia Beach, Weber Stefonowich will oversee the fundraising efforts, including individual donations, corporate sponsorships and grant requests.

"Kelly's background, including nonprofit fundraising and grant-writing, along with strong project management and communication skills, makes her an ideal fit in the role of development specialist at Virginia Beach Public Library," said Director of Libraries Eva Poole. "Working with the Virginia Beach Library Foundation, Kelly will help generate external funding to ensure that VBPL can continue and expand early literacy efforts, technology resources, programming and other services for the community."

Weber Stefonowich previously served as the grants and annual fund manager at Young Audiences Arts for Learning Virginia, where she successfully secured funding from numerous local philanthropic agencies including a multi-year grant from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.

In addition to her work in nonprofit development, Weber Stefonowich has six years' experience in research, writing and editing, including editorial positions at an academic journal and a manuscript editing project.

Weber Stefonowich holds a doctorate and a master's degree in history from Rice University in Houston, Texas. She also holds a bachelor's degree in history from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
