UPDATE: Suspicious Death - 1200 block of Habitat Lane

UPDATE:  February 14, 2019

Arrested:  William Alberto Oliva Rodriguez, 25, of the 1800 block of East Little Creek Road has been arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Murder.  He is being housed in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.

The decedent has been identified as 19-year-old Jairo Armando Sanchez-Guardado of Chesapeake​.

This remains an active investigation by members of the department's Homicide Unit.

​On July 6, 2018 at approximately 10:06 a.m., Emergency Communications received a report from two kayakers in the waters of Lake Smith/Lawson.  They reported a deceased man near the shoreline.  Officers responded to the 1200 block of Habitat Lane where they located the adult male.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This case is being classified as a suspicious death and is being investigated by members of the department's Homicide Unit.

The decedent's identity is being withheld for investigative purposes.
