Virginia Beach Mayor’s Commission on Aging to Sponsor Senior Showcase

The Mayor’s Commission on Aging will hold its annual Senior Showcase on Wednesday, November 9th, from 9 am until 2 pm at the Princess Anne Recreation Center, 1400 Nimmo Parkway, Virginia Beach.

 

The showcase is for seniors and their families; senior advocates; industry professionals; churches; civic leagues; independent and assisted living communities; and anyone who wants more information that relates to seniors issues and better living as we age.

 

There will be three information sessions: 

  • “Power of Attorney:  License to Steal?” 
  • “Living Safely with Alzheimer’s”
  • “Emergency Preparedness for Seniors and Their Families”  

Registration is free and includes lunch and entertainment.   Mayor William D. Sessoms, Jr. will speak and present the commission’s annual awards for service to seniors, and Kerri Furey with WAVY-TV 10 will attend and speak to the group. 

A number of sponsors will be at the Showcase and will have exhibits throughout the center with information about additional programs and services, including Anthem; Elder Care at Home Caregivers; Lady Lawyers; Towne Bank; Pacifica Senior Living; Marian Manor Assisted Living; Seniority Housing and Resource Guide; and Clare Bridge/Brookdale Assisted Living

Registration at the door is from 9 am until 9:45 am.  Information sessions will be from 10 am until 12 noon, with lunch and entertainment beginning at noon.   You can also register in advance by calling Judy Faro with the Mayor’s office at:  757-385-4581, or e-mail her at:  jfaro@vbgov.com.
