About Virginia Green (
Virginia Green is the Commonwealth's green certification program for the tourism industry. The program is supported through a partnership between the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the Virginia Tourism Corporation, and the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging and Travel Association (VRLTA). The program seeks to reduce the environmental impacts of the tourism industry and raise environmental awareness about green tourism opportunities in Virginia. More than 1800 tourism businesses have become Virginia Green Certified in the 10 years of the program's existence, and certified partners are achieving significant reductions of wastes generated and energy & water consumed. The City of Virginia Beach was chosen to host the 5th annual conference because it has more than 180 certified Virginia Green partner businesses, and it was the first city in the Commonwealth to be designated in 2008 as a "Virginia Green Travel Destination".  Conference registration is available here and Virginia Beach businesses and residents can use a special promotional code of "99VaBeach" to get a discounted conference rate. Admission to the Green Tourism Business Expo is free and open to the public.
