Fatality - 100 block of Oceana Boulevard

Friday, February 16, 2018

On Thursday, February 15, 2018 at approximately 10:48 a. m. a 2003 Cadillac Seville was traveling northbound in the 100 block of Oceana Boulevard prior to the observation pull off area.  A 2007 Mack cement truck was on a private access road off Oceana Boulevard.  The cement truck stopped and proceeded to enter the intersection to turn left onto southbound Oceana Boulevard at which time the Cadillac impacted the driver's side of the cement truck.

An off-duty Virginia Beach Officer who was in traffic behind the Cadillac heard the crash and ran to the Cadillac.  Seeing that the driver of the Cadillac had stopped breathing, the officer immediately began lifesaving efforts until Emergency Medical Services arrived.  Unfortunately, those life saving measures were unsuccessful and the driver died at the scene.

The decedent has been identified as 70-year-old Deedrie Naomi Lewis, of Virginia Beach.

The operator of the cement truck was issued a Uniform Summons for Failure To Yield Right Of Way.
