City to Open at 10 a.m. on Thursday

Winter Storm #2-06 – 10 p.m.

Virginia Beach, VA ­– Jan. 17, 2018 - Due to the snowy conditions, all City of Virginia Beach offices and nonessential facilities will open at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18. Alpha II employees should report at that time or at their normally scheduled time thereafter.

Based on individual circumstances, Alpha II employees may request leave approval from their supervisor for the remainder of the day on Thursday.

Alpha I employees will report as expected or as directed by supervisors.

Early Childhood Programs at Williams Farm, Bow Creek, Princess Anne, and Kempsville will also open at 10 a.m. and will close at their normal time of 6 p.m.​​

Closings for Thursday, Jan. 18:

  • With schools to be closed, there will be no before- or after-school programs, and no recreational youth or adult basketball or volleyball.​
  • All Virginia Beach Courts and Clerk's Offices and the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 18.
  • As Tidewater Community College will be closed on Thursday, the TCC/City Joint-Use Library will also be closed.

Cancellations for Thursday, Jan. 18:

  • The Thursday, Jan. 18 meeting of the Interfaith Alliance at the Beach, which is coordinated by the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services, has been canceled.
  • The Bayfront Advisory Commission meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 18 has been canceled. Meetings are normally held at 3:30 p.m., on the third Thursday of each month, at the Virginia Beach Resort and Conference Center.
  • The Virginia Aquarium Boat Trip for Thursday, Jan. 18 has been canceled.
