Double Homicide - Gate Tree Court

UPDATE:  January 25, 2017 

Additional charges have been obtained for the four subjects related to this double homicide.


Dale Edward Gauvin has been charged with two counts of 1st Degree Felony Homicide and two counts of Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony.

Steven Larry Gray has been charged with two counts of 1st Degree Felony Homicide and two counts of Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony.

Malkim Shamarr Hart has been charged with two counts of 1st Degree Murder and two counts of Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony.


Justin Travis Rigby has been charged with two counts of 1st Degree Felony Homicide and two counts of Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony.

UPDATE:  January 17, 2018

Investigators have determined that several people were inside the residence when an argument erupted leading to the three victims being shot.

Michael Allen Cain, 28, and Matthew Dillon Jyrkinen, 22, both of Virginia Beach were pronounced dead at the scene.

Arrested:

Dale Edward Gauvin, 22, of the 9400 block of Mason Creek, Norfolk has been charged with Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, two counts of Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony, and Aggravated Malicious Wounding.

Steven Larry Gray, 35, of the 400 block of Woodview Lane, Hampton has been charged with Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, two counts of Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony, and Aggravated Malicious Wounding.

Malkim Shamarr Hart, 29, of the 9400 block of Hickory Street, Norfolk has been charged with Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, two counts of Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony, and Aggravated Malicious Wounding.

Justin Travis Rigby, 33, of the 9400 block of Mason Creek, Norfolk has been charged with Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, two counts of Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony, and Aggravated Malicious Wounding.

Gauvin, Gray, Hart and Rigby are being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.

This case remains under investigation by members of the department's Homicide Unit.

On January 8, 2018, at approximately 5:04 p.m., Virginia Beach Police responded to the 1400 block of Gate Tree Court for a report of shots fired.  When officers arrived on scene, they located two deceased adult males.  Emergency Medical Services transported a third victim, an adult female, to a local hospital with a life threatening gunshot wound.

There is no threat to the community.  This case remains under investigation.
